monkey island, as named by the kids in our neighborhood, is a small peninsula that juts out from tenney park beach into lake mendota. its has wonderful views back toward campus and downtown, as well as out toward maple bluff. however, its defining features are the big boulders and fallen trees for climbing, scrambling across, ducking under, and general monkeying around amongst. it's a super fantastic place to spend an hour or so, no matter what your age. ramona, james and i recently ended up on monkey island during a stroll around the park.
ramona strolls right under a fallen tree, out to the end of monkey island.
no one looks comfortable with the precariousness of this posed picture. ramona doesn't want to drop james, and james doesn't really want to be dropped.
james searches for edible plants while staying cool in the shade.

Is monkey business allowed on Monkey Island? What about horseplay?
