manhole?

it may not be an official manhole cover, but david did photograph a decorative ground plate. i figure that it's close enough to a manhole cover to qualify as blog material. so, here it is. the commemorative plaque at the giant dipper, santa cruz's old wooden roller coaster, at the boardwalk amusement park. we didn't ride it this time, but we wanted to. it's a good roller coaster--no inversions, no shoulder harness, no record-breaking heights. just a lot of up and down while sitting on your butt on a plastic seat with a questionable metal bar loosely positioned somewhere above your lap, while you zip around on 100 year old wooden tracks on a roller coaster built on the sand. good times.
we took an early walk through the boardwalk on a chilly, foggy morning. the park was closed, and the rides were eerily silent and beautiful.
