giraffe dinner time

thanks to our generous friends, ramona and i were able to participate in a behind-the-scenes giraffe feeding at madison's vilas zoo. those guys are tall, beautiful, and hungry. every time i handed a cracker up to a giraffe, a long purple tongue would snake out of the giraffe's mouth, wrap around my fingers, and grab the cracker.

ramona was fascinated until she tried to feed a giraffe herself. as the giraffe got close to her, she dropped the cracker, buried her face in my neck, and did some scooby-doo-style running in place in my arms. that was sort of the end of giraffe magic for her.

but she seems to recall it fondly. yesterday, upon seeing a picture of giraffe, she lit up and said "crackie!" (which is her word for cracker). crackie, indeed, little buddy.
