our sweet, friendly chicken dorothy died this weekend. the cause of her death is unknown, but it seems as though she went peacefully. she was the warmest, most engaging chicken we've ever met. without her, there will be a hole in our flock, and in our hearts. we learned this weekend that our chickens are much more than egg producers; they are pets, and we love them. here are some photos from dorothy's short life.
age: 1 week
adolescence
our only chicken who loved to be held
part of the family
a friend to man and gnome alike
here she is hoarding in on her best friend sophia's egg-laying time
daddy-daughter time
a majestic fowl takes flight
goodbye, little bird.
thank you for being a friend.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dorothy. It's always hard to lose a chicken.
she really was a beautiful bird.
very sorry. I'd like to think that she and Snowee are frolicking together in greener pastures (you know, also the lion and the lamb).
