what we call "harvest fest" might also be called "thanksgiving #1" or "a weekend in michigan with family." no matter what you call it, it is a wonderful way to spend a weekend. the staple family comes together in grand haven, michigan, for birthday celebrations, big meals, and good times. there is a traditional thanksgiving-style meal, complete with turkey and stuffing.
this year, we brought our new toy: the turkey fryer. we've used it to can vegetables and brew beer, both outdoors, but had not yet fried a turkey. it turns out you need a lot of oil,
a lot of upper body strength,
and a delicious bird.
it was a success.
there was also high snorkel-readiness among the cousins,
and plenty of bow-wearing by the baby.
