because we can

tomatoes. tomatillo salsa. escabeche. we canned those things this weekend, and the whole time, i had fatboy slim's song "because we can" stuck in my head. canning in the backyard is pretty fun. having that song stuck in your head is not.

here's what we did:

visited our beautiful csa farm vermont valley to buy tomatoes, tomatilloes, and peppers.
obviously, one must take time to pet the goat.
then we took it all home, cleaned the vegetables, and peeled and cored the tomatoes.
vegetables were stuffed into clean jars, and a little vinegar was added.
david boiled the water and dropped the jars in.
after 45 minutes, they are done, and ready to be stored.

(in unrelated news, this is a much much better fatboy slim song, with a classic video. who knew christopher walken was such a talented dancer?)
