how in the world have we lived in madison as long as we have without ever having been to, or even having heard of, sophia's bakery and cafe? marta became curious about this little establishment after walking by it several times. she google searched it, and discovered some of the most flatering reviews i've ever seen for a restaurant. the only complaint anyone has is about the wait and the cramped quarters. so, we decided to give it a try for breakfast this morning.
sophia's is tiny. there are only 4 tables, and you are strongly encouraged to share them with other patrons. sharing tables with strangers would normally be a turn-off, but in the case of an quirky little breakfast spot, it kind of adds to the charm.
marta had the cherry crepes topped with whipped cream and i had the butternut squash and roasted red pepper omelet with fried potatoes.
both meals were amazing. the ingredients were high quality, and they were prepared to perfection. i really can't say enough good about sophia's.
another slightly unusual thing about sophia's is the hours of operation. it's only open saturdays and sundays from 8am-2pm. they are not open for dinner, and are not open on weekdays. so, if you're in the mood for some incredible food some weekend, and don't mind a little wait or some cramped quarters, we would highly recommended trying sophia's. i'm very glad we did. oh, and they also have bakery items (incredible looking croissants) for take-away.

Marta, you look adorable! What a year 2010 will be for the Staple Fam!
You had never even heard of Sofia's? Seriously? I'm going to have to revoke your Madison card.
