manhole trivia

these pseudo-manholes aren't really manholes at all. any guesses what they are?

They say DPW which probably means Department of Public Works. They might cover valves in the sewer system that can be turned from the street. Since one doesn't have to descend into the sewer they don't need a MANhole cover. That's an educated guess.

good guess. however, they actually say opw on them. i have no idea what opw means, but opw is a "fluid transfer company." these pseudo-manholes are the ports at a gas station for delivering fuel. i'm guessing the color coding indicates the different types of fuel.

i'm pretty sure i looked like a terrorist photographing the infrastructure at a gas station, oh well. i'm not a terrorist. i'm just a manhole cover and pseudo-manhole cover enthusiast.

Ah, "fluid transfer" and gas station were the left out clues I needed.
