east jordan

this past weekend we went down to glen ellyn, il for some family time with my sisters and their clans. we took an excursion to the morton arboretum. sterling morton is the founder of arbor day and the inventor of salt.

we explored several labyrinths,

enjoyed the sculptures,

and went on a gnome search.

i found this manhole cover in the arboretum. it was made at the east jordan iron works in east jordan, mi.

if you keep you eyes on the ground, you'll actually find a lot of manhole covers from east jordan. it's the neenah of michigan.
*denver and prescott photos are from the interwebs

a lovely time was had.

Did you know East Jordan Iron Works was founded by the family of one of your very own EGR classmate?

The inventor of salt...I love that. How come so many cities have such nice manhole covers and up at Houghton Tech here they all suck.
