this past saturday we attended the great taste of the midwest beer festival. over 3 billion brew pubs, micro-breweries, and beer drinking yahoos converged on olin park for 5 hours of "beer tasting."
in actuality, there were about 400 breweries and 5,000 attendees. we made our way to some of our favorite breweries (bells, founders, new holland, capital, sprecher, etc.) and discovered a lot of new ones (surly, dark horse, flossmoore station, kuhnhenn, et al.).
david enjoys a decadent taste of beer from a beer fountain (thanks new holland).
marta rehydrates at the beer bubbler (aka drinking fountain)
tom generously shares from his pretzel necklace. pretzel necklaces were very en vogue at the taste.
the majestic capitol peeks through a gap in the porta-potties at olin park.
a good time was had.

Was Shorts Brewing Company there? I have been sampling their work this summer. Top notch. http://www.shortsbrewing.com/
holy crap that looks like fun.
How'd you get tix? Star always seems to sell out in the first hour they go on sale.
i don't specifically remember shorts brewing company, but i'd be surprised if there was a midwestern brewery that wasn't there. we probably should have solicited advice from friends on what to taste, because there were too many good ones to hit them all.
we sort of fell into the tickets. one of marta's co-workers had 2 extras. there were a lot of people selling extra tickets for less than face value. i was surprised considering the trouble people go through to obtain them.
That's amazing. I'm saddened and in awe at the same time. Some day, some day....
