we said goodbye to the wisconsin chamber orchestra, andrew sewell, and picnicking on the capitol lawn last night at the last concert on the square of this summer. it was a real doozy. we had a big crew. the group is documented in this panoramic photo. (sorry to those of you who were photographed on the edge of an image; you may appear a little altered).

tracy silverman came to sing his original ode to madison, the official song of the city "coming home." a recording of this song is played at the end of every concert on the square, but this time, it was live. cecely took a nice long embarrassing video of us singing along with tracy at the top of our lungs. we decided not to share it with you. instead, we made a little ode-to- madison montage to watch while you listen to tracy silverman sing to you about the glories of coming home to madison.
when the chamber orchestra put their instruments away, and tracy packed up to head back to wherever he's from, american family insurance sponsored a madison celebration laser light show. they blasted bizarrely short snippets of top 40 hits over the speakers, and we all danced. david air guitared. it was quite a celebration.

that is a fantastic 78ers t-shirt Company! It looks like it's in mint condish. Have you had it hermetically sealed? Or do you get new ones from John Hoekstra?
just off highway 51....ah I love highway 51.
the 78ers shirt looks pretty decent in that photo, but it is getting dangerously thin. i'm worried that one day it is going to complete its sublimation process and i'll be left standing shirtless.
we learned an interesting tidbit about tracy silverman. he originally hails from beloit, wi. so, despite living in nashville or something, he is not a carpet bagging city-song writer. moreover, being from beloit, madison is "just off highway 51" to him. i guess i judged him to quickly after our short email exchange last year.
what a great post! It makes us want to visit asap.

Andrew Sewell used to be the conductor of The Livonia Youth Philharmonic, back when I was a violinist in the string section.
What makes Madison "Home" is all the good friends you have there. If they keep coming home, you'll never be alone.
I can only assume that the reason I don't appear in the panoramic picture of the folks at the concert is because you've edited me out because you feel threatened by my superior blog.
